How Youth Wing Members Register and Get Verified
How Youth Wing Members Register and Get Verified
The Base Movement Youth Wing is our civic, mentorship, and community service programme for members aged 14 to 17. It runs separately from our adult membership tracks, Ghana Resident Network and Diaspora Network, because Ghana's Constitution ties political party membership to voting age, which is 18. Here's exactly how Youth Wing enrolment works, step by step.
Why the Youth Wing Is Separate
Under the Constitution of Ghana, political party membership is tied to the voting age of 18. The Youth Wing is a civic and mobilization programme, not political party membership. It carries no voting rights, no leadership eligibility, and no part in any internal decision of the Movement.
Because of this, the enrolment form:
Does not collect a Ghana Card number or Voter ID number
Cannot have a membership number issued or promised by any officer on the spot
Only generates a TBM-YW- membership number once the form is entered into our database at headquarters
Step 1: About the Young Person
The form opens with basic identification:
Full name (first and last)
Date of birth (DD/MM/YYYY)
Age on today's date, ticked as 14, 15, 16, or 17. If the applicant is 18 or older, they use the adult membership form instead
Gender
Religion (optional): Christian, Muslim, Traditionalist, or Other
Step 2: Where You Live
Next is location:
Region, tick one, if the applicant lives in Ghana (all 16 regions are listed, from Ahafo and Ashanti to Western North)
Country of residence, if the applicant lives outside Ghana
Town or community
This mirrors the adult forms' region/country split, Ghana-resident youth tick a region, diaspora youth provide a country instead.
Step 3: School
The form asks for the applicant's education level:
Junior High School
Senior High School
Technical/Vocational
Out of school
Other
Name of school is optional.
Step 4: Parent or Guardian Consent (Required)
This is the section that makes Youth Wing enrolment different from every adult track, and it cannot be skipped. It requires:
Guardian's full name
Relationship to the young person: Mother, Father, Grandparent, Legal guardian, Aunt/Uncle, or Other
Guardian's phone number, which our team calls to confirm consent before activation
A signed consent statement: the guardian confirms they are the parent or legal guardian named, consents to the young person joining as a civic and mobilization member, understands this is not political party membership and carries no voting or leadership rights, and agrees to be contacted on the number provided to confirm consent
Guardian signature or thumbprint, and date
The form also includes fields for the enrolling officer's name and signature, and confirmation that the entry and consent were verified by headquarters.
Step 5: Submit and Get Verified
Return completed physical forms to the nearest Base office. Your membership number is issued only after the form is entered into our system, and can then be checked at thebasemovement.org.gh/youth-wing/portal. You can also enrol online directly at thebasemovement.org.gh/youth-wing/register, which follows the same steps and consent requirements as the paper form.
Because guardian phone confirmation is part of activation, make sure the number provided is one the guardian can actually be reached on. Verification isn't complete, and no TBM-YW-XXXXXXXXX number is issued, until that call is made and consent is confirmed.
What Happens at 18
Once a Youth Wing member turns 18, they move to the adult membership forms, either the Ghana Resident Network or Diaspora Network, whichever matches where they live, following the standard adult registration process. Youth Wing enrolment doesn't automatically convert, since the adult forms collect different required information, including a Ghana Card or Voter's ID for Ghana residents.
Tips for Parents and Guardians
Have your own name and a reachable phone number ready, our team calls to confirm consent before the membership number is activated.
No officer can issue or promise a membership number on the spot, it's generated only once headquarters enters the form.
Ghana Card and Voter's ID are not required for Youth Wing applicants.
Read the consent statement carefully before signing, it confirms you understand this is civic membership, not political party membership.
If your child turns 18 while still active in the Youth Wing, direct them to the adult registration form to continue their membership.
Youth Wing enrolment takes just a few minutes to complete, and gives young Ghanaians, at home and abroad, a structured, guardian-approved way to participate in civic life before they reach voting age.
